So I am just back from a great trip or should I say 'vacation' to the US capital Washington DC. I was lucky enough to also spend the 4th July celebrations there. It was not this celebration that was one of the most memorable though stangely.  At 5 am of July 3rd the centre of Washington DC had an eery emptiness. Walking up to Du Pont Circle there was not a pedestrian to be seen or a siren to be heard. It was something I will remember forever. A city usually teaming with activity and a feeling of important business going on all around you was quiet and serene. A perfect start to what was a very memorable week. Another highlight for me was seeing the Lincoln Memorial, a beautiful building with amazing iconic imagery. Some great words were spoken by that man who had a great passion for unity within all people. Sitting on the stairs looking upon the reflection of the Washington Monument in the waters made me think about a lot of things. Mostly the thought of unity. Can true unity ever be achieved? I am a firm believer that you should just be good to people. If the people in the world honestly just wanted to be kind and help each other out we would be a unified world that would only get better and better.

However, I know that this is an ideal, an ideal that cannot exist. The human race cannot live like that, humans hunt. Whether it be a hunt for love or money, power or knowledge it seems to be in our design. This not only makes me feel gutted that true peace will never be found on our planet not just in my generation but in my children's generation and the generations that come after theirs and so on. But it also makes me feel out of place, I don't desire much in the form of 'things' yeah, sure it is nice to have nice things but what really makes me feel amazing are moments that can last a lifetime in your heart. A kind gesture at the perfect moment, a look or touch from a loved one, a walk at 5am through an empty city, these are your true belongings, not things you grasp, but things you feel in your heart.
